Book Ideas

So yeah, I get these occasionally. Most of the time I just put them back on the shelf because I don't consider myself a decent enough writer to do them credit. I thought this one was worth sharing though.

Origin of the idea: Pied Piper/the children lead off by the same/descendants of either party. I'll admit that this may have been prompted by Mr. Rick Riordan's recent works, but my main thought behind it was preserving the older, Pre-Tolkien folklore from Central and Western Europa. The stuff is prolific, interesting, and most importantly it hasn't been played to death by D&D novels.

Looking online for about five minutes brought me to the conclusion that the Piper isn't so popular a figure to write about, even though he's totes mysterious and majyykal. In my own memories, the only time he has popped up in a story not his own was in Garth Nix's series "The Keys to the Kingdom". Maybe it's his "Pied"-ness? People relate him to a clown, and then his dark backstory makes him an evil clown?? Understandable, I guess. Gamzee* more than proved what evil clowns can do. But still, magical music? What's not awesome about that idea? I mean, I guess in a written form there's only so much you can do to convey that whatever music someone is playing has super powers.

Then again, "Inkheart" by Cornelia Funke did a good job of portraying real life magical narrators, so eh? But I've been going back and forth with myself enough, and you're probably tired of this wall (hedge? curb??) of text. I'll leave it at this: if I manage to get this idea going, it'll probably be given out chapter at a time in this medium. That's how some non-talented authors start writing, right? Don't hold your breath though.

P.S.: You may have noticed my idea didn't extend beyond the origin. There are various reasons for this; the most prominent being that I didn't write down any of what I daydreamed for three hours, and I returned to the origin at least five times in that frame.

*Gamzee - Character from Homestuck, part of ms paint adventures by Andrew Hussie. Seriously, that comic has poisoned my mind. I'd say in a good way, but I'm almost behind on homework...

Stick the Landing!

Ugh, traveling. How can one simple word host so many horrors? I doubt I need to go into details for the majority of any audience I may have, but wow.

Moving on, walking home late at night, I stare up into the sky, as humans are want to do. I don't know very much about constellations. In fact, I only regularly recognize two of them: Orion (thanks, Men in Black!) and Ursa Major (or the Big Dipper for most people I know). I like to find these two imaginary figures in the night sky, probably just to make myself feel better that I can recognize something most don't even care to look for.

This night, interestingly enough, I finally found Orion falling head first into the horizon behind me. It took me a moment to realize why this position felt odd. Approximately seventeen seconds, in fact, or the amount of time it took me to turn down the final road that led to my house. Looking up here I suddenly remembered that Orion had been falling towards the distant boundary right in front of me as I walked home several months prior.

I just thought it was interesting that where once The Warrior dropped on the path I was walking, he now fell in behind me. *cue artsy-fartsy list of possible symbolic meanings*. So glad I could indulge both of our intellects with that.

And around we go...

Birthday!

Though it was nearly 19 years ago that I was given life, it is only today that this blog will be given a name!

Sorry, I'm still a bit dazed by Homestuck, a webcomic by some guy named Andrew who has a thing for drawing, and subsequently losing, pumpkins. Its pretty neat, but an absolute time suck. *Mystical segue!* And actually, lots of things seem to drain my time, from school to games to my ridiculously sick party life, which I participate in solo so that other people that would otherwise be around me don't feel awkward at the vast difference in level. No lie. Kinda.

But here I am, a tired college student trying to type a paper, when I suddenly realize "Hey, I could use some practice!" All the things taking away from me suddenly gave me inspiration to give!! And so, Time Trench was born! Using this medium, I can group all the things I waste time on into one place! Sounds exciting, no?... Oh, you really mean no?... Crap.

It's not so bad as that. While I may be a terrible writer at the moment, I can promise you a few things up front:

1.) I am not Game____
2.) I don't repeat what I hear on Mix Radio Stations
3.) I make a horrible critic, what with how cool I am with everything. Expect me to be a lot more tolerant than what most of you normally real about books, movie, and such.
4.) I will make sure to make any use of "LOL", "D'HURR" and the like are appropriately labeled with their irony markers.

If my ROFLCOPTER isn't flying your way, feel free to jump out now before we lift off. It may be too late when I start pulling all the wicked nasty stunts for which you are not moxie enough. (< Did you see how I didn't end with a preposition there?! Yay me! Getting better already!)

PS: If you innocent bunnies check out that Homestuck I mentioned, here's you're warning: There's a little bad language and a lot of more constructive uses for your time if you don't sit in front of a computer for hours a day anyways.

And around we go...
